SCHAUMBURG (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - After a standoff with police for nearly seven hours Wednesday, a man is in custody for allegedly shooting a tree-trimmer in Schaumburg.
Police said the man surrendered peacefully and no one else was injured hours after they were called to a residential area on Braintree.
Schaumburg police said the shooting happened at about 2:50 p.m. after an argument ensued over noise from tree trimming. The suspect then barricaded himself inside his home.
Neighbor Sean Weeks told CBS Chicago what he heard.
“‘Michael, Michael, where are you? Pick up the phone, pick up the phone!’” He said. “Somehow they got his number, and they’re calling. Nobody knows who the lady is. Was it someone that was brought in, a professional person to do that? Is it a mother? Is it a sister? Or is it a co-worker? [I’m] not sure what.”
The Davey Tree Expert Company said the victim was one of its employees who was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
No word yet on the victim’s condition or if any charges have been filed against the suspect.
