(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A man in the far north suburbs was arrested for allegedly making firearms and machine gun conversion devices with 3D printers, according to the Lake County, Illinois Sheriff's Office.
The investigation involved multiple agencies investigating 31-year-old Charles Best, who was arrested Wednesday at his Grayslake home.
“Last month, members of our special investigations group received information that Charles Best was trafficking guns throughout Lake County,” Lake County Deputy Chief Chris Covelli.
The sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant and seized 64 conversion devices, three firearms, three silencers, two 3D printers, 3D printed pistol frames, rifle parts, over 1,000 rounds of ammunition, and 60 grams of cannabis wax from Best’s home.
“This is an individual that's manipulated these machines into being able to produce machine gun conversion devices. That's of great concern.”
Best was arrested on multiple charges, including five counts of unlawful possession of a machine gun and a firearm silencer, with more charges pending.
Additional charges are expected, and a petition will be filed to detain Best during his criminal proceedings.
“This investigation undoubtedly prevented bloodshed in our community. Gun traffickers are a real problem in Lake County and throughout the Chicagoland region,” Sheriff John D. Idleburg said in a released statement.
