BARRINGTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A far northwest suburban man is due in court today on a reckless homicide charge for the weekend crash that killed a Glenview police officer.

Barrington Police announced the felony charge Monday night against 23-year-old Christopher Lopez.

He’s from Cary, the same suburb that Officer Robert Fryc lived in.

Police said they crashed just after 4 a.m. Sunday when Lopez veered into oncoming traffic on Northwest Highway in his 2020 Kia Forte, hitting Fryc’s 2004 Volkswagen Jetta.

Glenview Police said Fryc was on his way to work at the time. He died at the hospital. The same hospital police say where Lopez was taken for DUI testing.

His detention hearing will be at the Rolling Meadows courthouse.
