CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man has been charged in relation to antisemitic graffiti at an elementary school earlier this week.
Chicago police said 43-year-old Jarrod Barnes faces two felony counts and a citation.
Officers said they responded to Nettelhorst School in Lakeview Monday afternoon after reports of the school being vandalized. They investigated the incident as a hate crime.
Both 44th Ward Ald. Bennett Lawson and Mayor Brandon Johnson have condemned the vandalism.
“We have no tolerance for antisemtic, homophobic or hateful incidents of any kind, and I hope the Jewish community in the 44th Ward and across our city know that I stand with them and their right to live without fear in our neighborhood,” Lawson said in a statement.
