Man dies in massive Naperville house fire

NAPERVILLE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An elderly man was killed and another person was injured in a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Naperville.

Fire crews responded to the 3500 block of Redwing Court just after 3 p.m.

There was heavy fire on the first and second floors of a large home. Most of the residents had escaped.

It was learned that the elderly man was trapped on the second floor. Firefighters worked to knock down the fire enough for a rescue.

The stairway had collapsed, according to the department. Fire had burned through the second floor.

The department said a ladder rescue wasn’t possible. Fire was coming out nearly all of the second-floor windows.

There were reports that a candle or candles may have started the fire.
