CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Murder and attempted murder charges have been filed against a West Side man in a shooting that occurred on Monday night on the South Side.

Trivell Pruitt, 53, is alleged to have fired shots outside a convenience store at 71st and State in the Park Manor neighborhood killing a man and wounding two others. Simon Brown, 59, was killed.

Police said he was an innocent bystander. He had just bought a lottery ticket and was walking out of the store when the gunfire started.

Two other men, 49, and 50, were wounded. One was shot in the head and was in critical condition. Someone fired back, wounding Pruitt in the leg.

Police said that person described only as an “unknown offender,” was seen getting out of a car and shooting Pruitt, who was initially in critical condition from his wounds.

Pruitt was arrested soon after the incident and was being treated at Christ Hospital.
