(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 32-year-old Huntley man has had a dream since he was 8: to open a zoo.

Now, he’s raising money and eyeing a piece of land outside Woodstock for what would become a facility called Wild Heart Adventure.

With a degree in biology and a concentration in zoology, Corey Hancock said he’s worked with animals since he was a teenager.

“The majority of my experience has been with large carnivores. Pretty much anything that can kill you, I’ve had a lot of experience with,” he said.

Hancock currently owns A Zoo to You, which is a kind of mobile zoo, minus the animals that can kill you.

With Wild Heart Adventure, he is trying to start a more traditional zoo for people in McHenry County.

“Letting them see them up close, in terms of a zoo that’s not Brookfield,” he explained. “Not a lot of people want to go to Brookfield. It’s so far away from where we are.”

Hancock said besides animals, his vision for Wild Heart Adventure includes camping and a wedding venue. A fundraiser has been set up online.
