Man murdered on Far South Side belonged to anti-violence group

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The 28-year-old man fatally shot Wednesday afternoon on the Far South Side worked for anti-violence group, according to the organization’s founder.

Chicago Police said the man was walking near a parking at East 95th and Dobson Streets at around 12:15 p.m. when two suspects converged, took out a gun and fired gunshots toward him. The man was hit in the head and died at the scene.

No one is in custody. Area detectives are investigating.

The founder of the anti-violence organization Chicago CRED, Arne Duncan, said the victim participated in the group. Duncan, former CPS CEO and U.S. Secretary of Education, tweeted the news Wednesday night.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to release the identity of the man.
