(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Batavia Township man is accused of running over his sister-in-law when a domestic dispute escalated over the weekend.

The incident occurred Sunday evening at a residence on Meadow Drive. Shane Schrauth, who lives in the home, took car keys from a woman investigators tell The Daily Herald is his wife to prevent her from leaving, believing her to be intoxicated.

Police say the woman called a son from a previous relationship to the home, and the son poured a beer over Schrauth’s head. Schrauth then allegedly got in the son’s vehicle and backed over his sister-in-law. The 47-year-old woman, of Mentone, California, had been standing in the driveway, police said.

“Both the rear and front axles went completely over the woman’s body before Shane brought the vehicle to a stop,” police said in a news release.

The woman sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to Loyola Medical Center. Schrauth insisted to police he did not mean to strike his sister-in-law.
He faces charges of aggravated battery, unlawful restraint and domestic battery.
