CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago Police have issued a community alert after two street robberies of letter carriers in the Galewood neighborhood.
The robberies occurred three blocks apart: on the 1600 block of N Sayre Ave on January 17 and the 1700 block of N New England Ave on January 31. Both occurred in the afternoon.
In both incidents, police said, a man described as black, wearing all black clothing, including black fuzzy slippers and wearing thick bi-focal glasses, approached letter carriers armed with a handgun and demanded their property.
In the alert, police suggested that people note any “unique physical characteristics” should they be witnesses or victims of such a crime.
And in these incidents, the letter carriers did note the thick bifocals and the black fuzzy slippers.
