CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A CPD SWAT Team responded to the Lakeview neighborhood Tuesday afternoon after a man shot two dogs.
The man told police he was in an alley near Sheffield and Oakdale at about 1:45 p.m when two dogs came at him aggressively.
He’s a concealed carry license holder and he was armed.
The SWAT Team responded because the man had gone into his home and police were unsure what was going on. They set up a perimeter, blocking access to the neighborhood and were there for hours.
Eventually they made contact with the man.
Leslie Balaz lives nearby. She spoke to CBS-2.
"Seeing a dog be fatally shot and another dog already deceased in front of your own eyes, in person, is not something you expected to see in your lifetime," she said.
She tried to help the dog that was still alive and was bitten on the nose and hand.
In the end, police said, the man who shot the dogs was acting in self-defense and no charges would be filed.
