Man shot after confronting would-be carjackers in the Loop: CPD

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man is in critical condition after being shot by carjackers in the Loop Sunday morning.

Chicago police said it happened near Van Buren and Clark around 4 a.m.

A 44-year-old man was approached by several other men, who tried to take his car at gunpoint.

The driver pulled out a weapon and exchanged gunfire with the group. He was hit in the leg and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police said the suspects fled the scene in a black Dodge SUV.

No one is in custody.
