Man shot and killed, woman wounded in attempted carjacking on South Side: CPD

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two people were shot during a carjacking attempt in the Bronzeville neighborhood overnight.

Chicago police said the carjacking attempt happened shortly after midnight on 49th and Calumet. A 20-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were in a car and were approached by two people with handguns.

The gunman attempted to take the car from the couple, but the couple tried to drive away. That’s when the gunman opened fire, hitting the 20-year-old man a number of times in his body, and wounding the woman in the foot.

The man died. The woman was in good condition.

No one is in custody.
