JOLIET (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 58-year-old Joliet man is facing charges after allegedly stealing an ambulance early Thursday and then crashing it during a police pursuit in suburban Joliet.

Henry McCall, 58, is charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, obstructing a peace officer and driving with a suspended license, Joliet police said in a statement.

According to Joliet Police, McCall allegedly stole a Wilmington Fire Department ambulance from the ambulance bay outside the emergency room at St. Joseph Medical Center just before 1 a.m. early Thursday.

"There is a male, black, bald head with a white shirt," a police officer said over the radio.

The ambulance was spotted by police soon and dash cam video documented the police chase that lasted about two minutes in the area of Jefferson and Northeast Frontage Road. It was there where McCall rear-ended a car, lost control of the ambulance hitting a guardrail, and rolled over down an embankment along I-55.

"...he just rolled over. Send EMS over this way," the officer said again over the radio.

Police said Henry McCall tried to get away of foot, but was taken into custody.

Both he and the driver whose car was hit had minor injuries.

McCall was transported in another ambulance back to the same hospital to be treated before being taken to the Will County Jail.
