
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man wanted for killing three people in Mahomet was shot and killed by police in Berwyn.
The Berwyn Police Department says that officers responded to a report of a man with a gun late Wednesday night on Home Avenue near 18th Street. The suspect has now been identified as 24-year-old John Lyons of Westchester.
When officers confronted the suspect, he ran from police. He reportedly broke into a home on Wenonah Avenue where it is said he shot and killed two dogs.
The suspect was seen again on Home Avenue where officers again confronted him. Police say the man refused commands and then shot at officers.
Berwyn Police officers returned fire and fatally shot Lyons.
No officers were injured in the incident.
Berwyn Police say they later learned that the offender was wanted for a triple homicide in Mahomet that occurred earlier that day.
The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force is handling the incident and it is considered an ongoing investigation.
