(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in the northern suburbs are searching for an 18-year-old Wadsworth man who is accused of possessing child pornography.
The Lake County Sheriff's Department said authorities served a search warrant on a residence in the 38000 block of North Bayonne Avenue this week. An examination of electronic devices uncovered sexually explicit videos of girls under 13, the sheriff's department said.
The man who had been in possession of these videos, Giovany S. Arias, is not believed to have recorded them himself, officials said. He may have shared the material with others, police said.
Arias appears to be avoiding police, authorities said. There is a warrant for his arrest on three counts of possession of child pornography, and a judge has set bond at $350,000.
Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said the Internet has made it easier for offenders to locate and communicate with their victims. He advised parents to monitor their children's Internet use.
"We understand there's a trust factor with kids and their devices, but nothing's worse than a parent finding out later that their child has been victimized right under their nose because they didn't take the opportunity to go through those electronic devices," he said.
