CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The manager of a fast-food restaurant in the Gold Coast neighborhood was hospitalized with slash wounds Thursday night after a confrontation with a former employee.
The 27-year-old manager of the Taco Bell on Chicago Avenue, just east of State Street, was attacked by a 47-year-old man - previously an employee - who went to the restaurant around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night demanding his paycheck, according to Chicago police.
Police said when the manager told the man he could not provide the check at that moment, the man jumped over the counter and began attacking him with a boxcutter.
The manager suffered two lacerations to the back of the head and one to the arm, according to police. He was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition, police said.
The 47-year-old former employee fled the scene; and while police know who he is, he is not in custody.
Area Three detectives are investigating.
