Markham to use $900,000 state grant to revitalize its 159th Street business district

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The city of Markham is planning to use state grant money for some high-tech improvements along its 159th Street business corridor.

Markham is planning to use a $900,000 grant from the Rebuild Distressed Communities program to cover the 159th Street business district with a high-tech camera system.

The grants are available to business districts affected by civil unrest in 2020.

The Daily Southtown reported the cameras and new light poles, eight in all, have a 360-degree view and are designed to alert police to crimes and to help identify those involved in criminal activity and also a deterrent.
