COVID-19 Vaccine

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Several suburban counties are expanding COVID-19 vaccinations this week.

New mass vaccination sites in Kane, Lake, and Will counties will offer COVID-19 vaccine appointments for anyone who is eligible in the state.

The move comes as the state is expected to receive nearly one million vaccine doses this week from the federal government.

It also comes following signs of a potential resurgence of COVID-19 cases.

Governor Pritzker said additional Illinois National Guard members will help the McHenry County Health Department expand operations at its vaccination site at a former Kmart in McHenry to six days a week.

In Kane County, a mass vaccination site is opening in the former Carson Pirie Scott store in Aurora at 970 North Lake St. IDPH officials believe the site will be operational Friday and will be capable of distributing up to 270 doses a day. To sign up, visit Kanevax.org. This site is in addition to the Kane County mass vaccination site that opened more than a week ago in the former Sam's Club in Batavia.

In Lake County, vaccinations will become available starting Thursday at a Waukegan parking lot at 102 W. Water St. Illinois residents can register for appointments at allvax.lakecohealth.org.

In Will County, a vaccination site will open Friday at the former Toys R Us store in Joliet. To register, visit the IDPH website.
