(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Brandon Johnson says he's preparing for what could be some contentious testimony before Congress next week.
Johnson and the mayors of other so-called sanctuary cities have been called to testify before a congressional committee whose chairman is openly critical of such policies.
Mayor Johnson says he's getting advice from others with experience on Capitol Hill.
“I texted Mayor Lightfoot a couple of days ago. I had texts with Arne Duncan, he's had his share of hearings,” Johnson said.
“There are a number of people I've spoken to Congressman Davis, Congressman Jackson, those are just to name a few. I'm talking to everyone.”
He says he doesn't know what to expect, but he will be prepared to defend the working people of Chicago and stand up for Chicago values.
“I am part of a long legacy of leaders in this city and this state that have stood up for working people, and that's essentially what I'm prepared to do on March 5, is to stand up for working people. The city of Chicago continues to lead the way.”
Johnson says he will not back down.
