CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lori Lightfoot is suggesting there could be further action against a South Side business where two people were shot to death and 13 more people were wounded early Sunday morning.
The gunfire occurred during at altercation at a pop-up party in a garage and towing business with an attached event space. There are reports the premises in the Park Manor neighborhood had past problems with violations. Mayor Lightfoot was reluctant to comment.
"I started becoming aware of the history of that building. It obviously goes back and predates my time as mayor. My direction to BACP and the police department is thoroughly investigate what happened. We will have a better understanding of what the history is and take appropriate action," she said.
While Lightfoot would not say what the action might be, she did suggest what it might be about.
"Obviously that was an unauthorized use for that facility and given the history, I would expect there to be some significant activity taken," she said.
Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said police are, of course, investigating a motive for the shootings themselves too.
