CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority has announced a busy calendar of events over the next 18 months at McCormick Place and other venues.
The CEO of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority Larita Clark said conventions and other events are back after 14 months.
"Between July 2021 and December 2022, there are 122 events scheduled at McCormick Place, with an estimated attendance of 1.9 million. Of these, 47 events are considered to be major events," she said.
"During the 14 months that we've been closed, we've made significant health and safety improvements on campus, resulting in the entire campus having GBAC STAR accreditation. This means that we are more than well prepared to ensure that our employees and guests remain safe while at McCormick Place."
Part of what they’re doing includes hybrid events, some in-person, some remote; and there’s a state-of-the-art production facility to make that happen.
McCormick Place closed in March 2020, and later became an $80 million field hospital for COVID-19 patients that was never really needed.
