At the migrant Landing Zone: 'I've been walking for six months'

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago city officials have implemented media guidelines for covering the nonstop arrival of migrants who are being bused from the U.S. Southern Border.

On Friday, WBBM Newsradio paid a visit to what has been termed the “landing zone,” at 800 South Desplaines Street in Chicago’s West Loop.

Crews were putting up poles that will become tents. For now, the newest arrivals are boarding warming buses provided by the CTA. The idea is for the migrants to eventually go to more substantive shelters run by the city or its partners.

One of the migrants, a man, asks in Spanish where he can find a place to eat.

He is told there are some restaurants, but they are a long walk from the landing zone.

He responds: “I’ve been walking for six months.”
