CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A teenager who was missing for four months was found in a Chicago basement earlier this month.
The 15-year-old girl was reported missing on Sept. 22, 2024 by her mother, a Chicago resident.
U.S. Marshals were made aware of the case on Jan. 1 and offered to help Chicago Police.
Police said the investigation required immediate attention due to a belief the child could possibly be in danger of sex trafficking.
Investigators eventually found the teen in a Chicago apartment, hiding in the basement storage area behind a water heater. She appeared to be in good health.
She was taken to Comers Children's Hospital for further medical evaluation before being safely returned to her legal guardian.
No arrests have been made at this time.
