CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The City’s inspector general suggests the firing of more than 100 Chicago police officers for lying on official reports.

City Inspector General Deborah Witzburg says dozens of current Chicago police officers are not able to appear as witnesses in criminal trials because they’re trustworthiness will be called into question for previously filing false reports, violating the department’s Rule 14.

Officers who violate that rule are supposed to be fired.

The inspector general says the police department underenforces the rule largely because of gaps in the practices and policies of the department’s bureau of Internal Affairs and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.
