CREST HILL, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man from Morris with a long criminal history was arrested Thursday in connection with the shooting of a woman in Crest Hill earlier this week.

Crest Hill police said prosecutors have charged Daeviontae Pruitte with violating parole and possession of ammunition by a felon.

The Joliet Herald News reported that the 28-year-old has been identified as the gunman who shot a 58-year-old woman in the arm as she was driving and more charges may be coming as police investigate.

“He was parked in the middle of the street [and] when she pulled up behind him, he backed up into a parked car,” the woman's sister told the Herald. “She assumed something was wrong with him and drove around, that is when he fired three or four times at her.”

Pruitte was released from prison three weeks before where he was being held on domestic battery charges, according to the Herald. He has been sentenced for other gun crimes and was acquitted of a 2012 murder.
