Motorist struck and killed on Bishop Ford, ISP says

SOUTH HOLLAND (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A portion of the outbound Bishop Ford Freeway was shut down more than four hours following a fatal pedestrian accident.

Illinois State Police (ISP) said the incident occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. in the outbound lanes near 159th Street.

A driver from a crash in the middle lane was trying to cross active traffic when they were hit by a passing vehicle, police said. The striking car remained on the scene. The walking driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

As part of their investigation and cleanup, ISP has shut down all outbound lanes, beginning at Sibley Boulevard and ending at 159th Street. The closure was in place since shortly before 3:45 a.m. and lasted until roughly 8 a.m.
