(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Mt. Prospect Village Board has taken the next step towards building a pedestrian bridge between two parks in the northwest suburb.
According to Mt. Prospect Public Works Director Sean Dorsey, the Melas-Meadows Pedestrian Bridge will cost nearly $8 million. Phase One work is done including basically getting pre-approval from IDOT and the Union Pacific Railroad.
"The next step is to complete Phase Two work, which is design engineering so that’s coming up with design, what is this thing going to look like, all the details, specifications," he said.
The village board has hired the Ciorba Group, an engineering company to take care of that Phase Two work for more than $725,000. The bridge would link Melas and Meadows Parks allowing pedestrians and bicyclists to safely cross Northwest Highway and railroad tracks.
