Have you ever tried to agree on pizza toppings with a group of friends? Did it end up with an argument about what toppings even belong on the beloved dish in the first place?

This weekend, there’s a new topping to fight over: pickles.

Through Sunday, the Pizza Hut located on 932 8th Avenue in New York City will serve up pizzas with this rare topping as long as supplies last.

“Pickles have recently taken social media by storm, with creators showcasing different ways to incorporate pickles into recipes on TikTok,” said a press release from the company. “Pizza Hut’s introduction of the Pickle Pizza demonstrates its commitment to embracing evolving tastebuds.”

Although many people like pickles – according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the average American eats around nine pounds of them annually – people can also get picky about what to put on their pizza. For example, the great pineapple debate.

“Pineapple is a scorching topic of debate: while a third believe it doesn't belong on pizza, 44% insisted that it actually does,” People magazine reported last year. However, responses to the pickle pie seem positive so far, with The Takeout saying it was “furious” that it would only be sold at one location for a few days.

The Takeout noted that while Pizza Hut may be the first major chain to plop pickles on pizza, it isn’t the first restaurant to do so. In fact, Bob’s Pizza in Chicago bills itself as “Home of the Pickle Pizza” and back in 2018, Food Insider reported on the pickle pizza at Rhino's Pizzeria in Webster, N.Y.

Pizza Hut’s version has a hand tossed crust, Buttermilk Ranch, cheese, crispy breaded chicken breast seasoned with a kick of Nashville Hot Seasoning, sliced white onions and spicy dill pickles.

“This unique taste profile is sure to satisfy the taste buds of pizza and pickle lovers alike,” it said. However, people have to work fast to get it. At $17.99, it is only available for carryout and must be ordered in-store. In the future, Pizza Hut may offer the pizza to a wider audience, said The Takeout.
