(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Looking for the largest collection of sock monkeys in the world? It's in north suburban Long Grove.
Arlene Okun, founder of the Sock Monkey Museum, got the official nod from Guinness World Records for her display of 2,098 sock monkeys.
Two judges spent hours cataloging and counting the monkeys, all of which were hand-made from vintage Nelson Red Heel Socks, a product of Rockford.
Okun said her collection first started at home with her husband nearly two decades ago.
"We're so excited about this, and we're going to be excited about this for a long time to come," she said. "It's something to really be proud of."
