(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — NASCAR Chicago Street Race “Loop 110” takes place on Day 1 of the race weekend in Grant Park.

During the practice and qualifying loops, the noise from the cars was clocking in at nearly 100 decibels.

There is a lot of noise between the concerts and the racing, but it’s just all part of the excitement for Bill from Streamwood.

“It's not so much sightseeing as wait, they're running cars at 100 miles an hour through Grant Park. It's more for the spectacle of we've been to Grant Park and usually there's not cars going 100 miles an hour through it, so we got to go see this.”

Bill was here for last year’s race, so he offers this tip to anyone headed down this weekend.

“Turn Six is the best place to watch the crashes because that's where they all have to slow down and go through a tiny little spot and cross the crosswalk all at the same time, which normally you don't hear ‘cross a crosswalk’ with a NASCAR.”

Sunday features the main event of race weekend, officially known as the Grant Park 165, which will begin at 3:30 p.m.

If you are heading out for any of the race weekend festivities, you may want to check NASCAR Chicago Street Race website before heading to Grant Park as there may be a few surprising items that are not allowed through the gates.

Among them are baby strollers, umbrellas, outside food or drink, coolers, or pets except for service animals.

This year, no obscene apparel of any kind will be allowed to be worn, including no large chains or spike to jewelry.

The list goes on and does become quite specific.

A few things that are allowed include stadium seat cushions, blankets, sheets and towels. Camel's back-type water holders and refillable plastic bottles are also allowed. Sunscreen and binoculars are also allowed.

Bags will need to be clear and no larger than 12 inches by 12 inches. Backpacks and bags with multiple pockets are prohibited.
All Chicago Parks prohibit smoking or vaping of any kind.
