CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - This summer's second NASCAR event in Chicago is expected to be a better financial deal for the City.
NASCAR and the city of Chicago have reached a verbal commitment in which NASCAR said it will give an extra $2 million payment to the City.
The Chicago Tribune reported the additional $2 million is still less than the $3.5 million in overtime and construction costs the City spent on last summer's inaugural race.
A study released by Choose Chicago showed the 2023 NASCAR event generated nearly $109 million in economic impact, slightly less than projected.
Some are critical of the NASCAR deal, including downtown and West Loop Alderman Bill Conway who told the Tribune the City should get more in writing and not just a "handshake" agreement.
This year's NASCAR race weekend is scheduled for July 6 and 7.
