(WBBM NEWSRADIO) —About 1,000 people were expected at Navy Pier Tuesday, as the first trade show returned to the venue.

Lots of music and food greeted the event planners, concierges and others who were present to look at what the city has to offer at the Hospitality and Tourism Summit.

“We’re just thrilled to have them back, and it’s really a great symbol of what’s to come,” said Marilynn Gardner, president and CEO of Navy Pier.

Michele Thomas is a singer who’s looking for a gig. And she’s hoping the lean times are over.

“When you’re out of it and you’re not getting called any longer, it feels a little scary getting back in,” she said. “So, something like this — to be in front of the whole industry and have your face shown and be like, ‘Hey, I’m here, we’re ready to go again whenever you’re ready to book us’ — this is huge.”

About 100 exhibitors were at the one-day event.
