CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago Public School system has lost quite a bit of tech equipment. But Chicago Police believe many of the items have actually been stolen.
The missing items included tens of thousands of computers and other devices that were lent to students for remote learning and have not been returned.
The Sun Times reported the missing items make up about 8% of the schools’ tech assets.
The paper stated that police suspect much of the missing property was stolen by people with access to the schools while they were closed. Air purifiers and defibrillators were also on the list.
The cost of the missing items from just 15 schools amounted to about $900,000. And police reports involving those indicated that the investigations are closed, meaning nobody is likely to be held accountable.
About 400 schools have filed police reports.
