(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — About $8 million left over from money raised to host the DNC in Chicago will go to charity. A new filing shows where the money came from.
The total cost for hosting the Democratic National Convention in Chicago came to about $89 million according to a recent filing by the host committee to the Federal Election Commission.
That leaves a surplus of about $8 million from the total amount of $97 million raised, Committee spokesperson Natalie Edelstein telling the Sun-Times that after all the bills are paid, the remaining sum will be donated to charitable organizations.
Among the largest donors: Gov. JB Pritzker, his wife MK, and other foundations and family members bearing the Pritzker name, along with Democratic political groups, and labor unions.
Topping donations from political groups: The Democratic Governors Association, with $6 million. Business groups and Labor unions also pitching in, the International Brotherhood Of Electrical Workers alone donating $5.2 million to the cause of hosting the DNC in Chicago.
