CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Bitwise Industries, of California, has announced plans to open a 6,000-square-foot training facility in April 2023 on 74th Street and South Chicago Avenue in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
That facility is expected to be temporary as Bitwise looks for a larger building in the same neighborhood.
Bitwise said it’s able to open a tech training center thanks to $80 million in new funding. The company trains and pays apprentices, and then it places them in jobs with local governments, companies and organizations.
Company officials said they hope to have 100 people trained and employed in the next year.
Bitwise Industries said that, in just one of the 10 cities where it provides tech training centers, it has helped with the creation of more than 15,000 jobs and accounted for more than $250 million in total wages—mostly for women and people of color.
