Another water main bursts in Dixmoor, village president calls for 'major funding' to resolve issues

DIXMOOR, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A new water main burst early Saturday afternoon in Dixmoor, according to the village president.

The latest water main break is located at 141st and Honore Avenue. This is the fourth water main break since Monday and comes after a boil order in the village was lifted Friday.

The problems began early Monday morning with one water main break and
that soon spiraled into additional breaks in other locations.

“Just when we think we are in the clear, another main breaks,” Village president Fitzgerald Roberts said in a statement.

“These pipes are old and brittle, and these breaks seem to be creating a chain reaction. Our community desperately needs some major funding to permanently solve these problems.”

He previously stated that the water lines in Dixmoor are more than 100 years old, and it will cost $49.5 million replace them.

Roberts also said that financial assistance from the federal and state governments as well as Cook County will be needed for the project.
