CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With 2024 just around the corner, the City of Chicago is planning to ring in the new year with quite the celebration.
The City said the festivities will begin at 7:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve with a custom projection program highlighting Art on the Mart's five years of displays.
The evening will culminate with Chicago’s New Year's Eve fireworks spectacular on the Chicago River, which will feature midnight fireworks displays from six bridges over the river and will coincide with the Navy Pier fireworks show on the lakefront.
Those looking to ring in the New Year in downtown Chicago will find the best free fireworks viewing spots along the Chicago River and Upper Wacker Drive from McClurg Court to Franklin Street.
As has been the case in previous years, the Navy Pier fireworks will also be free of charge.
City officials warned that bridge closures will be in place at Franklin Street, LaSalle Street, Clark Street, Dearborn Street, State Street and Columbus Drive beginning Sunday, Dec. 31, from 11:45 p.m. until 12:15 a.m.
The Wabash and Michigan Avenue bridges will remain open.
The closures mean public transit should be an effective way to get around, officials said.
