(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two brothers were denied bail Tuesday in the shooting death of Chicago Police Officer Ella French and the wounding of her partner in Englewood.

Prosecutors said 21-year-old Emonte Morgan was ordered to step out of the gray SUV Saturday night. When he did, he had a drink in one hand and his cell phone in the other, and he began “jerking his arms away from the officers.”

There was a struggle, and Morgan had a gun in his waistband, prosecutors said.

Then, he allegedly shot French and another officer.

Prosecutors said the officers’ weapons were holstered and that their body-worn cameras showed Emonte Morgan stepping over Officer French’s partner as he lay on the ground, after he had been shot three times, “once in the right eye, once in the right shoulder and one bullet lodged in his brain.”

Prosecutors say Officer French, who died, was shot once in the back side of the head.

A judge denied bail for Emonte Morgan, who is charged with first-degree murder and other felony offenses.

Emonte Morgan was not in court. He’s still being treated, after being shot during the incident.

An hour later in bond court, another judge denied bail for Morgan's brother, 22-year-old Eric Morgan.

Prosecutors said Eric Morgan tried to dispose of the murder weapon. He faces an array of charges, including obstruction of justice and unlawful use of a weapon.

On Monday, federal prosecutors charged a 29-year-old Hammond, Indiana man in connection with the killing. They say Jamel Danzy acted as “straw purchaser” of the weapon that was handed off to a felon in Chicago.
