(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Fresh off his recent gasoline giveaway, businessman and former Chicago mayoral candidate Willie Wilson is shooting down rumours that he’s behind another free-gas initiative — one that employs “golden tickets.”

"Today, I was made aware of a bogus story circulating around the Internet regarding my team and I, supposedly, placing golden tickets throughout Chicago at gas station pumps,” Wilson said on Twitter. “You should know, without doubt, the story is fake and false."

Wilson said it's unfortunate that someone would joke about “real struggles” Chicagoans are facing amid spiking gas prices.

Wilson has said he’ll announce April 11 whether he’ll run for mayor, ostensibly against incumbent Lori Lightfoot, whom he endorsed in the last election.

Lightfoot has been careful not to criticize Wilson’s recent gas giveaways, which have totalled $1.2 million. On Thursday, her administration announced plans to distribute 50,000 gas cards of $150 each and 100,000 pre-loaded transit cards to help ease the pain.

Wilson, on Twitter, called the mayor’s plan a “political stunt.”
