(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 46-year-old Lombard man will await trial behind bars after he allegedly threatened to shoot two Muslim men during an abusive encounter earlier this week, prosecutors said.

Larry York, who is charged with two counts of a hate crime, allegedly confronted a man who was sitting in a car Tuesday morning as the motorist was waiting for a friend at Point West Apartment Complex.

York “began swearing at the man and telling him he did not belong in this country” and punched his car window, DuPage County prosecutors said in a news release. Inside the residential complex, York confronted the driver’s friend and “began swearing at him and threatened to beat him,” authorities allege.

York continued to harangue the two men and made threats to shoot them and said, “This is America. Get the (expletive) out of here,” according to prosecutors.

Lombard police reportedly arrested York the following day at a local bar. His next court appearance is Nov. 2.

“Hate crimes have no place in a civilized society,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a prepared statement.
