(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It’s not just the likes of the Kansas City Chiefs who get to rub elbows with the president of the United States at the White House after becoming champions; Naperville’s North Central College football team has also earned that honor.
That’s because North Central’s football team secured a Division III National Championship during the 2022–2023 season. The Cardinals will be among 90 NCAA national champions recognized by the nation’s highest office on June 12.
The invitation is part of the inaugural College Athlete Day, which is hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the White House to celebrate the 2022-23 women’s and men’s NCAA championship teams from all three divisions.
Representing North Central will be Head Coach Brad Spencer, the full-time coaching staff, several student-athletes from the championship team and Vice President for Student Affairs and Athletics Dr. Jessica Brown.
North Central’s football team won its second championship in December 2022, with a 38-21 victory over the University of Mount Union (Ohio). The Cardinals went undefeated over the course of the season and set the all-time Division III record for rushing yards in a single-season.
Highlights from North Central’s championship victory can be found here.
The ceremony will take place on the White House’s south lawn.
