West suburban carjacking suspect evades police in wild chase

NORTH RIVERSIDE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police in North Riverside pursued a car Wednesday night, and the driver crashed and injured a man and then escaped.

It was about 6 p.m. when police were conducting a traffic stop. They said  it was related to a crime committed earlier at the North Riverside Park Mall, possibly a carjacking.

The driver sped away and crashed into a bus stop near Harlem avenue and Cermak Road. A pedestrian was injured.  The driver took off on foot.  This was in Berwyn.

Police set up a perimeter, and at least one K-9 was involved. A helicopter was overhead.

While police were searching for the man, witnesses told CBS News Chicago he then carjacked a minivan and sped away again.

The van was later found abandoned in North Riverside.
