CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The bell rings and the halls bustle inside Resurrection College Preparatory High School in Chicago's Edison Park neighborhood. The seven acre campus on Talcott was once a farm.

"The school was founded 100 years ago by the Sisters of The Resurrection with the intention of giving young women a platform to serve and transform society," said Rick Piwowarski, President.

The nuns bought the land and developed it for the community.
"They built a school after the farm. It was always in service to the people of the neighborhood. The original building is across the street. The building we are sitting in now was built in the mid 60's."

In 1926, the first Resurrection class graduated four young women, and now, nearly 18,000 young women have graduated from Resurrection.

Piwowarski said the school's history is not lost on the students.

"I tell them they are standing on the shoulders of the women who went before you and the women who will be on your shoulders later on. When they walk through the hallways knowing that your part of something much bigger than yourself."

Over the next several months, the school will celebrate its past, present, and future. Piwowarski said it's an exciting time for the faculty and the student body.

"We'll be celebrating all year round." he said.

A pep rally to kick off the centennial campaign was held for the students and alumni on Friday, April 1st.

Piwowarski said the school has come a long way in the last century. In 2022, there were 465 students enrolled.
