Investigation underway after Northshore billboards display antisemetic messages

NORTHBROOK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A North Shore congressman and the Village of Northbrook are condemning hateful messages that appeared on billboards during Wednesday’s evening rush.

The digital billboards displayed the messages "death to Israel” and another profane statement with Palestinian flags in the background.

Drivers started noticing them before 5 p.m. along the Edens Spur near Waukegan Road in Northbrook.

The village board released a statement saying it unequivocally condemns anti-Semitism and all acts of hate speech.

Congressman Brad Schneider said the signs were in a community with a large Jewish population at the beginning of the holiday Sukkot. He called the display disgusting and intimidating

The company who owns the billboards, OUTFRONT Media, said it did not authorize the messages and is conducting an investigation.
