NORTHFIELD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A popular Illinois grocery chain is closing down a location in the northern suburbs.
Mariano's said the store on Willow Road off the Edens Expressway in Northfield will close later this month, due to its lease expiration. It wasn't immediately clear if Kroger is eyeing any other Mariano's closures.
The closure of the location, where the Mariano's has been since 2013, comes in the midst of a blocked merger between Kroger and Albertsons, Jewel-Osco’s parent company.
Mariano's said during the transition it will be offering affected employees the chance to transfer to other Mariano's stores.
