(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- We're finally hearing from the athletic director at Northwestern University for the first time since news broke about numerous credible allegations of hazing and other misconduct within the football program.
In an interview with cable's Big Ten Network, Derrick Gragg said the school is committed to -- as he put it -- fixing all the problems and overcoming all the challenges Northwestern has been dealing with.
But he declined to answer questions related to the report that first revealed allegations of hazing, and Gragg would not talk about the school's decision to fire head football coach Pat Fitzgerald and baseball coach Jim Foster.
Gragg, who has held the AD job at Northwestern since 2021, went on to say the school is taking steps to make it easier for student athletes to report incidents of abuse. He said his heart goes out to anyone who was victimized.
On Monday, NU President Michael Schill told the Daily Northwestern that Gragg's job was not at risk.
