OAK LAWN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Cook County prosecutors have upgraded charges against an Oak Lawn man after an autopsy found his infant daughter died from child abuse.
Oak Lawn police arrested Edward Janiszewski again after prosecutors charged him with first degree murder. The Cook County medical examiner ruled his eight-week-old daughter’s death was a homicide due to craniocerebral injuries.
Police said Janiszewski confessed to detectives he shook the baby and slammed her head on a cushion on May 30. Later that day, staff at Hope Children’s Hospital diagnosed her with severe head and brain trauma. Police said she had been in and out of the hospital days before with what staff thought was dehydration and a stomach illness.
Janiszewski is expected in court Thursday morning.
