CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Former President Barack Obama and some of his supporters looked back on that January in 2008 when the then U.S. senator won the Iowa Caucuses.

It happened 15 years ago, yesterday.

Obama has said January 3, 2008, is his favorite night of his entire political career. In a video produced for the Obama Foundation, the former president sat down with six former campaign organizers to talk about the victory.

“When I think about 2008, the thing that I always come back to is the young organizers and sometimes not so young volunteers that really helped us win Iowa,” said Obama.

Former Organizer Ann Dailey said the mantra of the team was that the campaign was not about them. She said it was about something bigger than themselves.

“It’s more to say that we are here as individuals to support something that is bigger than ourselves,” Dailey recalled.

President Obama responded that was his mantra too. He said he got some of his inspiration and motivation from the enthusiasm of his campaign staff and volunteers.

“Everyone found their role that felt best to them that contributed to creating a community space, where people really wanted to spend time,” former campaign staffer Kiana Scott said.
