CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago police sergeant is facing charges after her SUV was stolen.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office said 58-year-old Oneta Carney was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm after she allegedly fired her gun after her 2016 Toyota 4Runner was carjacked Saturday at the Sam's Club in suburban Evergreen Park.
Prosecutors said Carney, who was off duty at the time, fired her weapon while another vehicle along with pedestrians and children were also nearby.
An adult and five juveniles were charged after the SUV was recovered on the 200 block of West Wacker.
Carney's bond was set at $5,000. She is due back in court on Nov. 8.
